1965 Mustang ‘A’ Code Convertible…very, very rare early production with the ‘A’ Code 289 engine with the 4-speed with lockout, here is the #1 worldwide color combination that is confirmed with the factory Data Tag, here is a serious collector rare Mustang convertible, produced before the GT that did not come out until April 1965 as this has the same 225 horsepower engine, a full restoration collector history with very fresh updates, just ‘as produced’ with many ‘numbers’ everywhere, a gorgeous very rare exterior that are the correct factory specs in its original color of Caspian Blue paint with the White bucket seated interior, also has the White power softtop, this color is so rare and desirable that Fraser Dante kept a photo from a Mustang history book that is part of our archives (LINK), this is the First such rare combination Fraser Dante has ever had!!!  a full documented restoration a few years ago and then serious collector owned, then refreshed in the Fraser Dante shop in Fall 2019, a very low production early Mustang convertible with the production date of August 18, 1964, has the hard to find rebuilt ‘matching numbers’ ‘A’ Code block and the heads for the 289/225 horsepower engine, has the proper factory C5 intake with an uprated Edelbrock 4v carburetor for show driving, also note that both the heads and block are dated right before the build date of the car…this has the car dating as set per the original rare Data Tag (LINK), has the polished Cobra MCA kit, ‘A’ code dual exhaust, back up lights, a full complete tune is completed on this unit, has the rare and proper dated 4-Speed manual transmission, correct shifter, working uprated air conditioning with the new compressor that uses 134a, has the newer Radio (the original one is included), Ford power steering, 1965 Rally-Pac Gauges, luggage rack, full length uprated center console, white sun visors, new blue carpet, Visibility Group…Day/Night Rearview Mirror, dual outside mirrors, white power top, also brand new 1965 Rally Wheels with new Hankook whitewall radials are just installed as this had collector older tires when received at Fraser Dante Classic Cars, the handling is enhanced with the under hood ‘export brace’ and the Monte Carlo bar that are very desirable to stop chassis flex, excellent to drive, Halogen lamps, note that this is an ‘A’ code car that was produced before the GT’s that did not appear until April 1965 so this is the ‘big’ engine, virtually all parts are NOS or new, great file of history of the color and the white interior as the factory produced, also that is found with the car are the very rare rear under seat factory dated metal tabs with date production codes on them, has the original factory stampings on both lower horizontal rocker panels along with factory stampings on both inner drip rails in the trunk (SEE PHOTO LINK),

With strong stock springs and a great ‘stance’, then the uprated suspension has the upgrade with the Monte Carlo bar and the export brace, this car is set to drive to a show, a fresh preparation at Fraser Dante of an extremely rare car, a great worldwide color, this is a very rare car indeed with the very, very desired color but also the history and the fresh prep by Fraser Dante, see the many ‘numbers’, specs and LINKS in this report to show condition and authenticity, 

History: this color combination is so very important that Fraser Dante has the saved historical Mustang history that has the exact color (SEE LINK)…this is so rare that this document is part of our library of important build facts…hereby this is presented with the Original Data Tag showing how rare this production is, see the (DUAL LINK) of the actual door tag along with the Ford breakdown of the data numbers, this comes with the original Owner’s Manual with the proper VIN# (LINK), there is also a file that has restoration photos (LINK) that shows how solid the car was before the start of the build a few years ago, it appears this is a most solid car that had but two footwells nicely replaced, this is very normal as through the years people put their wet feet in the car, most of our top quality restorations have this work completed, this car then went to a serious collector so well known in the automotive world for about 5 years, then ended up at Fraser Dante for a complete finish and updating of all the mechanicals and cosmetics for Spring 2020…this today is presented in top Driven Show condition with the fresh restoration plus the accomplished history that shows not only the restoration but also being owned in very top collector hands…it is just a really terrific presentation for the knowledgeable collector wanting such a rare combination,   

Engine/mechanicals:  this is the correct 289 cid/4v Mustang engine as per all the factory date codes, the initial published specs of this famous 289cid with the bore of 4.00” and a short stroke of 2.57” are for at the factory rating of 225 horsepower @ 4400 rpm along with the strong 305 lbs of torque at 3200 rpm, this free reviving engine is a great engineering piece, now this is highly show stock detailed with the black engine set forth with the MCA chrome valve cover Cobra kit, note that the date code of the car build of August 18, 1964 is before the GT that came out in production only in April 1965, this would be the best unit for actual strong street performance, noted below are the very important specifics to confirm said authenticity and what is here today,

This rebuilt unit is very rare as it is dated to the build of the car…as close to ‘matching numbers’ as possible, the C5AE-6015-E block is dated 4.h.1 (August 1, 1964) and the heads are both 4.g.22 and 4.h.14, these dates of July and August 1964 are so rare to find today, they are  all correct (SEE THE LINK OF THE NUMBERS), has the excellent very correct, very even dry cold reading compression from 135 psi to 141 psi across (LINK), since this was in a collection for some time, these figures will increase with warm driving, has the proper ‘A’ Code exhaust manifolds with new gaskets leading to the dual exhaust system, this has a new Edelbrock #1404 500cfm manual choke carburetor with the stock factory C5 intake manifold, both just fitted and the linkage checked, engine set up with MCA show as factory black air intake system and chrome MCA valve covers, these wonderful 289cid small blocks are fitted with hydraulic lifter heads that yield high torque and have easy maintenance, the restored radiator has all fresh fluids for great cooling, then the Fraser Dante special hi tech VR1 20-50 oil with zinc is added for great lubrication along with new oil filter that few shops even do today, (LINK), brakes just checked, (LINK),

now also just installed is an expensive new strong DuraLast Gold battery with 750 cold cranking amps for great starting, has the new proper cables (LINK), this car has the full testing by the staff of Fraser Dante is just completed, the engine bay is detailed to MCA driven show presentation, note the Cobra chrome valve covers and the proper air cleaner with the hi-po orange air filter, the full tune completed is with new show Ford C5OZ spark plug wires, new Autolite copper core ‘45’ spark plugs (SEE LINK), the timing and valves are professionally set, then now installed is the ‘Spectra Premium’ distributor ignition and engine management system (SEE LINK), points and new condenser, the complete timing is set, the 4v carburetor is adjusted, then a small road test is done, 

Wiring/lighting: in the great file of the restoration shows that this initial restoration was completed with ‘Painless’ full wiring harness (LINK) for the 12 circuit Mustang with the brochure that was used in the initial restoration and comes with the file, the Fraser Dante shop has checked all the headlights to work, the driving lights work, even the optional backup lights in the lower rear valence work, the working brake lights are just road checked,   

Interior: this has original color of the white buckets that are very desired, these look fantastic with the dark Caspian blue exterior, here is the #1 worldwide color, these very nice white buckets with excellent padding and the rear bench seat looks great, there are two front blue safety belts, note that when the seats were taken out, the Ford original production tabs with the C4ZB numbers were found under the seats in the metal springs between the factory (LINK), this find is very rare indeed, there is a proper new blue carpet, is equipped with 4 Mustang special floor mats, this has a newer Custom Autosound radio with note that this even comes with the original AM factory show only non-working radio (SEE THE LINK PHOTO), note that this very nice interior has an expensive 1965 proper black Ralley Pac mounted on the steering column, has the black finish with the chrome front shield, the dash and bezels are  nice as factory, the gauges work, this has an uprated white console with cup holders that many people love, very good looking and useful, can lift out if someone does not want, all the emblems look great and also this has the fresh chrome polished bumpers along with the dual outside chrome mirrors,

Note that the 4-speed shifter has the fresh chrome handle and the factory ‘lock out’ release to put in reverse, 

Wheels/tires: the previous owner had used a set of later 14” 1967 Magnum 500 chrome wheels with older tires as it was seldom used, now for Spring 2020, Fraser Dante just installed an expensive brand new set of factory correct 1965 14×6 styled steel wheels, chrome lug nuts, red center caps, then a set of the very excellent Hankook Optimo P195/75R14 narrow band whitewall radials were mounted and balanced (LINK), these look great and very period and drive great,

Fresh work includes the correct strong drum brake system that is proper for this date production car just fully rebuilt at Fraser Dante shop, brakes have excellent shoes and hardware, the system is flushed, they work great!! If one desires, Fraser Dante could even add the uprated GT front disc brake system by SSBC corporation with brake lines, this whole build would be accomplished by the Fraser Dante expert staff,

Chassis/suspension: here again, one can see the effort and restoration of this most solid car, has the really just great solid floors painted semi-gloss black to show how this underchassis is rust free today, this presents so well thusly as a top Driven Show car that can be shown with mirrors, to enhance the handling, also with the great chassis, this has the under hood export brace that is used in the engine bay and the rear of the firewall along with the added Shelby Monte Car bar now installed, these will stop the normal chassis flex of a convertible that will join with the radial tires so this drives even better than new,

The trunk is restored with the solid black painting, then the side wood insert is used, then the plaid mat and the plaid cover for the spare steel wheel is added for shows, has a radial spare tire and jack, note: see the photos of both sides of the inner trunk drip rails with the factory stampings so well shown in the attached (LINK),

Summary: a really wonderful and very rare 1965 Mustang convertible, the very first build like this that Fraser Dante has ever had, so very documented original and so cool about the correct full dated engine, items like the original metal rear seat tabs from the factory dated and stamped C4ZB are very cool indeed, all fully shown in photos and LINKS, Owner’s Manual, a just very rare production with all fresh preparation ready for Spring 2020 shows or to be in a very serious collection, a collector 1965 Classic Mustang Convertible with top, top attention to driving abilities, a truly unique opportunity, now offered at $55,950
