History: is a very famous worldwide classic with very high design, the car is just like the cover of the Volvo 1800 book (LINK), the car was presented to the public for the first time at the Brussels Motor Show in January 1960, the P1800 (‘P’ for ‘Personvagn’) was ambitious for a growing but small carmaker like Volvo, the company was already making as many PV544s and Amazons as it could sell, so Volvo then outsourced final 1800 assembly to Jensen, the English company that constructed bodies for the Austin-Healey 3000, the firm Pressed Steel in Scotland produced many of the components, but the P1800 was quite the cosmopolitan affair for the early 1960s with the wonderful styling, some credited it to Frua in Italy, but it was actually the work of Swedish designer Pelle Petterson, these were then taken by rail to be assembled at Jensen in West Bromwich, England, in September 1960, the first production P1800 for the 1961 model year left Jensen for an eager public, then in 1963 production was moved to Volvo’s Lundby Plant in Gothenburg, the name was changed to 1800S (S) standing for Sverige or in English “Sweden”, in 2009 this design was officially recognized as with Pelle Petterson’s authorship and creation as a famous and timeless sports car design,
Although more high-speed cruiser than all-out sports car, the P1800 was well received here by the press, and Volvo received an extra injection of publicity when a white P1800 was chosen as Roger Moore’s ride for British TV show The Saint…this special car was in the loving care of an Atlanta gentleman since approximately 1983, it was his pride and joy, then age and health stopped him from driving, this is now updated in the Fraser Dante shop ready for Summer 2020,
Data tags: clearly seen in the engine bay, shown here are the data tags for the car production and the VIN#…see the LINK, all signs that these factory tags are exactly correct, so this is a 1966 model and now this appears to have an 1967 original factory grill in very nice shape that was installed in the first restoration, the amber driving lights really set off the front end,
