History: very seldom now in late 2017 does one find such a great original Ford all steel body, there are extensive notes from the owner going back to 1981 stating that this was a really original body and steel that was found with a flathead V8, there are many hand written notes (LINK) about the original build in North Atlanta for a very substantial collector, then had more notes and upgrading through the years, these notes and some factory brochures are part of the file that will go to the new owner, see the photos that were taken when this car was built (SEE MANY LINKS), there are many more large and smaller photos in the file for history, after being restored for the Dad initially, this went through another rebuild, this was kept in North Atlanta in a home garage with some other special cars, the grown son is also a serious car collector and builder, unfortunately the father who initially had and maintained this great 1940 Ford Coupe recently passed away, thusly this is a family estate car, we can clearly say that this family has great taste with their home and their cars being of this highest quality,

Engine: this great 1940 Ford has been through two builds in the drivetrain, first acquired with the flathead V8 with the period dual carbs for that era (SEE LINK), then in the first build with a Chevrolet 327cid engine was used, then since the goal was to bring to the new ‘modern era’ and have matching manufacturing units, this now has a fresh Ford 302cid unit with hydraulic lifter heads, this rebuilding is completed for ease of running and top performance, the very expensive ‘Fast’ throttle body fuel injection unit that is $2795 plus shipping plus installation that is now in place, fired by MSD ignition, note also the photos that show the Aeroquip lines for fuel and brakes with the lightweight and strong alloy fittings, note the header system that leads to the dual exhausts,

Great cooling: in order to achieve the goal of driving in traffic today, a large heavy-duty aluminum radiator is installed that is specially made for the ’40 Ford with 16” electric cooling fan, this means the car runs cool and will operate the air conditioning system, tested by Fraser Dante in traffic in 90o running,

Drivetrain/Rear End: the C-4 automatic transmission is selected to work with this engine install, it shifts perfectly when taken on drives both a surface streets and even some highway cruising, this is operated with the column mounted shifter mounted on the beautiful tilt steering column installation, this restored driveshaft goes to the new 8” Ford rear end that is set for cruising at a comfortable 65 mph,

Furthermore:  this handling is superior with stated front suspension including the ‘modern’ rack and pinion power steering that couples to the radial tires, the alignment is just checked along with the specs (LINK),

Suspension/Brakes: this features the very desirable and expensive power 4-wheel disc brakes in the build, note the brand new lines and fittings used in the construction that are shown in the Fraser Dante photos, after being acquired from the local Atlanta substantial collector, this was then put through the Fraser Dante shop to confirm and update the restoration so confirmation of said build and current condition are just checked (LINK),

The handling and the attitude of this wonderful 1940 Ford Coupe features a lowered Mustang II front end, with the tubular ‘A’ arms, coil springs with shocks in the front, this is part of the all new suspension, with this stance in the build, this handles so very well, the General Manager of Fraser Dante felt this was the best 1940 Ford is the best handling and driving we have every had,

This then features fully restored and painted black steel wheels that look fantastic,  they have stainless trim rings and hub caps, then this has the BF Goodrich white wall radial tires with 185/70/15 fronts and 215/70/15 rears that yield great handling and a smooth ride,

Interior: stock looking full Mohair interior is installed both front and rear that includes all door panels and headliner, dual safety belts, a great polished tilt steering column with reduced diameter factory style steering wheel and all new hardware, in the dash area, this stock appears has all new 12 volt gauges, the Vintage air conditioning unit works great and recently coolant just installed,

Frame/chassis: this exceptional build is a complete frame off construction, just fantastic build has a sensation black gloss black chassis that is better than new (SEE ALL THE PHOTOS OF THE CHASSIS), all new bushings, the front end is a Mustang II build that yields great handling, this is truly an exceptional all steel and show detailed underchassis, a real high point of the car that is hard to find today,

Lighting: this has a full new 12 volt lighting system installed, the headlights are Sylvania halogen units,

Summary: this terrific 1940 Ford Coupe is the best driving such age vehicle that Fraser Dante has seen and tested, our General Manager drove this some 32 miles to our shop and showroom on a hot summer day, he stated “this is the best ’40 Ford that I have driven”, this is set for someone who wants to drive a collector 1940 Ford, now with the long time documented history with written notes and photos, out of a the very great care of a substantial collector, this is now a fresh check and presentation for Fall 2017 at the Fraser Dante shop, featured in the February 2014 Medallion Refinish System Calendar (LINK), offered at way below build costing with fresh updating at only $64,950

History of the 1940 Ford: here is truly a statement of automotive art and great build project…this is very desirable, rare and hard to find in this original period and solid condition, one of the most desirable vehicles ever produced was the '40 FORD, originally designed by Bob Gregorie working with Edsel Ford, this vehicle like all versions of landmark cars and pickups that were and are sought after as a piece of Americana design, items like the headlamps fit into the very graceful, highly designed fenders, just beautiful lines and restored factory chrome trim to contrast the luster of the black car
