1965 MUSTANG 'A' CODE 2+2



1965 Mustang 2+2 that looks like a Shelby clone in a gorgeous period color, this chassis is a very rare ‘A’ code factory ‘R’ San Jose production, finished in just beautiful Shelby Guardsman Blue paint with amazing luster to couple the White Shelby full length stripes, rare Shelby steel and fiberglass hood, terrific body with very straight lines, solid original floor pans, show prepared underchassis highly detailed with red primer, very strong fresh built C5AE ‘289’ engine with strong compression, special camshaft ordered for this car by Fraser Dante, fresh high tech oil, 4v Edelbrock carb with matching aluminum intake, Cobra kit, aluminum radiator, HD fan, stock looking MCA detailed engine bay, brand new 14x7 Magnums with B.F.Goodrich radials, excellent 5-speed transmission, the shifter looks factory stock, special restored driveshaft, new suspension build, KYB shocks, new springs, Shelby sway bar, alignment, great looking blue bucket seated interior, fold down rear, terrific looking dash pod, new expensive Shelby steering wheel, just installed retro tachometer, new electrical wiring, GT rear exhaust valence, full testing and cosmetic presentation just completed with the professional Fraser Dante restoration shop, has the excellent side and rear glass with a tinted front windshield, just a fantastic Shelby clone to look good and really enjoy for Summer 2017,

ENGINE: a fresh C5 AE 289cid/4V engine, this engine was pulled when acquired by Fraser Dante to improve for top performance, (LINK), check specs and prepare driven show, one can see the build of the engine (LINK), a lot of professional effort to complete, we know that this is a correct but not the original engine to the car and was previously rebuilt by a previous owner, here the casting is correct as the date codes are 6M6, the hydraulic lifter heads are dated within 3 days of each other and are very close to the block date (SEE LINK OF ENGINE NUMBERS), this has new lifters, push rods, timing chain and gear set, a new Wieland/Edelbrock aluminum intake is installed that is painted black to look virtually stock, Edelbrock 1405/500cfm carburetor,

Camshaft: a new special ordered Doug Herbert hydraulic street cam built for low end torque setup is just installed to improve performance, see the really great compression of 155 to 160 lbs taken after the build (LINK), the sound of this cam is really sensational, deep and throaty, after all of this, then the engine bay detailed to top standards,

For excellent running with hot weather and a strong engine a brand new Champion aluminum radiator is installed, large fan, new water pump installed, thermostat, hoses and clamps, new timing chain, full fresh tune includes the Autolite spark plugs, 7mm Autolite wires, rotor cap and new points,

oil/filter:  after the initial break in oil was used, now the oil and filter are now changed and upgraded thusly to protect the engine, Fraser Dante uses very expensive special high-tech racing oil with added zinc content with Valvoline VR1 20-50 to insure long term performance, since today’s gasoline and standard oils have cleaners added, these early non-catalytic engines need the heavy duty oil and the zinc for lubrication purposes (LINK) for these older engines, this is very costly and used only from shops who have top operations as Fraser Dante,

Drivetrain:  Ford ‘T-5’ 5-speed transmission with stock 1965 factory style shifter is just built and installed, strong from the start and then the overdrive 5th top gear, then the special driveshaft with the correct length built for the 5-speed that then has been completely restored for great balancing, professional effort completed to get the stock looking 1965 Shelby shift handle installed to give the authentic look along with great shifting,

Important: a fresh installation of the expensive and really desirable Borgeson variable power steering complete system is just installed by Fraser Dante (LINK), this variable ratio box is very desired in the ‘real world’ as it works much better than the original Ford units, this unit is really excellent and better than the factory unit that leaks and has too much assist while driving down the road,

Running gear/driveshaft: the Fraser Dante restoration is shown with photos of the work just completed, this includes the fully restored driveshaft just built and installed, (SEE LINK), most people do not realize that the driveshaft in these 1965-66 Mustangs have been subject to twisting torque motions for over 45 years, the special work includes pulling the unit, taking it to a restorer, the shaft is balanced and strengthened, the ‘U’ joints are rebuilt, the slip yoke on the input end is also rebuilt, the unit is spun balanced, to complete said work with new installation is $630 alone,

INTERIOR: a great point to this 1965 Mustang 2+2 is the blue standard bucket seated interior, has the blue more modern consoled that is desired, it is fitted with the factory rear fold down seat, front safety belts, factory radio delete plate, no radio, we recommend using your iphone/ipad with a Beats speaker for great sound, full blue carpet set, Mustang floor mats, show correct plaid trunk mat with full size standard spare with matching plaid spare cover,

Note the very great Shelby replica steering wheel just installed, this beautiful unit really makes the interior driving a joy, we also have installed the Bosch ‘retro’ tachometer that very period, (LINK), this electronic unit works like the 1965-67 period and is even wired for back lighting, 

SUSPENSION/BRAKES: to include the excellent stopping, a dual line 1967 master cylinder for the Ford front GT disc brakes up front, these are excellent for safety with new pads that are installed, (LINK) the rear drums and completely checked to make sure this stops well, a new 1” Shelby sway bar with bushings (LINK) is just installed, also expensive Koni shocks are installed by Fraser Dante for a firm ride and great handling,

WHEELS:  Fitted with the aggressive looking new 14x7 Magnum 500 wheels with 215/70/14 BF Goodrich radial TAs, balanced and the car is aligned after these were installed, really fits the attitude of the car, (LINK), or one could choose bran new 14x7 styled steel wheels with new Hankook 195/75/14 narrow band whitewall radial tires (LINK),
Body/chassis: has a steel reinforced Shelby hood that was acquired by the last collector who owned it 20 years that is out of his personal stash, the body panels are all believed original, they are very straight, the paint has great luster and a top #2 or Driven Show car, this color of Guardsman Blue paint with amazing nice presentation to couple the White Shelby full length stripes, professionally buffed for exceptional luster, (LINK),

Specifics: this is a terrific body and underchassis, has the original and very solid floor pans, they are just painted in correct show red oxide,  (LINK), great torque boxes, has also the original and Ford factory solid stamped rocker panels and great lower pinch welds, has the straight and original original rear quarter pans,  we believe that the inner side front apron has been nicely changed with battery tray due to acid and minor rust issues, all the other fender aprons are original, this is an original factory ‘A’ code chassis not but not a factory GT, has many upgrades,

Lower pinch welds:  this great 1965 2+2 San Jose ‘A’ code 2+2 retains the Ford/Mustang lower ‘pinch welds’ that are in top condition, these welds are very straight and  rust free, this still has the FOMOCO stampings on the lower horizontal valence that show the authenticity, photos show the proper show condition that are presented today, hard to find so good!

SUMMARY:  beautiful Mustang 2+2 ‘a’ Fastback in very desirable Guardsman Blue with the fold down rear seat, safety belts and fresh strong ‘289’, 5-speed transmission, terrific looking interior with the Shelby steering wheel and the period tach, really top mechanicals and a show car fun to drive, highly show detailed underchassis, the final build is ready for Summer 2017 shows with really great price of only $45,950
