these woody wagons had steel structures that were made in Detroit and then shipped via rail to the famous Iron Mountain wood plant, the 1949s are the most valuable as this is the last of the all wood cars including the real tailgate, this even has two sets of original type keys with correct leather holder, has the original floor jack and tool kit in the specially hand made ‘factory’ new period canvas bag bag in side rear, part of the tremendous effort is made for authenticity and top mechanical running condition, the underchassis and frame are so very solid, very original and unmolested with slight factory original undercoating, now recently detailed as a ‘frame on’ along with many updates for a work of automotive history that drives well, here is a serious design of investment grade collectable automotive art, the last of a wood era,

History: VIN#98BA-184480 that is stamped on the frame for authenticity, matches the visible VIN #, this is for sure a two owner vehicle then restored in its home town, it was originally owned by Cheyenne Mt. School in Colorado Springs, Colorado as a ‘school bus’ and ‘sports team’ car with then 42,065 miles and now is only 43,690, this is certified by the last owner and on the title, then Fraser Dante worked to bring this up into even better cosmetics and mechanicals, after that upgrading, this was then sold to a serious ‘car guy’ who is a senior BMW executive, he owned for 3 years and did even more improvements to a higher level, thusly a total of 4 owners in the whole life, here is the 2518th 1949 all Woody two door wagon built October 1948,

This specific woody is featured in many high end magazines and promotions, there are two Hilton Head magazines that put this on the cover to celebrate their famous Concours event (LINK), also this was featured in a advertising promotion with a high end casual clothes manufacturer (LINK), said original wood came from Ford’s Iron Mountain wood forest and plant in Northern Michigan, the last of the all wood station wagons, has full frame on initial restoration by top senior builder and former race driver as member of the first family ownership, health reasons enabled Fraser Dante to buy the car and then finish the work, really wonderful wood that is so very hard to find, work includes a new firewall pad, glove box, floor mats, battleship linoleum (custom grooved) in rear deck, rubber seals for back windows, (LINK), new rubber door seals, new windshield rubber, new windshield, interior headliner with one year proper wood bows, nice interior wood, door hinges rebuilt, door seal rubbers for doors, greasing just done on windows, good tailgate and vent wings sealing, has the very, very rare one year door handles that are worth about $700 if one can find today, these are the type parts and items that set this apart, then back at Fraser Dante for Fall 2016 to again make sure this is a really investment piece as a top, top Ford Woody wagon,

Engine/drivetrain: fresh build of the original Flathead V-8 272 cid, highly detailed as factory, full build includes new Pistons rods, crankshaft turned, cam, complete valve train, heads are passenger 8BA-9430, driver 8BA-9431, Speedway water pump, New Ford Script hoses, rebuilt factory 2v carberator, proper oil bath air cleaner, this was done by the first family, then sold to a collector who maintained the Woody and then back to Fraser Dante for the final set up for the new owner being able to drive and enjoy,

the intake is 8BA 8RT, 6528, (SEE LINK), distributor, the bottom of firewall is original paint, the top is new, has the 3 speed transmission as it should, new clutch was installed and works fine with recent adjustment, new temperature senders, temp gauge recalibrated, rare original tailpipe and muffler, fuel tank cleaned and sealed, steering gear rebuilt, full new wire loom, original voltage regulator cover, battery, new Starter solenoid, voltage regulator, new battery box and hold down both starter and generator rebuilt, new fan belts, patent tag, original 3 speed transmission, driveshaft rebuilt, balanced, all new grease zerts in suspension,

racing oil/filter: Special Valvoline high performance VR1 20-50 high zinc oil is added along with new filter for engine protection (LINK), said oil gives the proper zinc for the lubrication of the engine, note this step is using the top racing quality oil that can only be used on engines without a catalytic converter,

When received from the first family back initially in 2014 in Atlanta at Fraser Dante, in order to make this rare Woody in top condition, the full tune was completed, the oil in the air cleaner is changed, the engine oil is fresh, new cap and rotor, points, new Champion spark plugs, new plug wires, the coolant was flushed, timing was set, the road test was complete with about 5 miles, then our collector friend worked on this again with further improvements to prepare for now Summer 2017 as a great serious investment piece,

Braking/wheels: when received, this lovely rare collector 1949 Ford Woody had sat for a while from the original family, now all new brakes with newly turned drums, shoes, new wheel cylinders, has a good master cylinder, all rubber brake lines, these brakes make this famous Woody safe to drive, gear oil checked in rear end and transmission, it came with 4 new shocks, for Summer 2017, the braking system is fully checked again for safety, (LINK),

Correct expensive 4 new wide whitewall Firestone Deluxe Champion 7.10x15 bias ply tires, proper chrome Ford stamped hubcaps and correct chrome beauty rings, original dealer undercoating, extremely nice solid and rust free frame rails, new paint just applied for maintenance and producing a show presentation, hard to find so original,

Interior: very rare original clock and the radio both work, very hard to find and not reproduced original sun visors, very knowledge work to complete the one year dash with the correct color of the simulated wood graining on dash and around windows is as new like factory, a proper beige color with the dash pod is as factory with correct presentation, the original off white steering wheel is a stock and maintained rare unit with only a bit of very minor cracking, one can tell that now some 67 years later, here is the real factory unit with the chrome horn blow rings, the seats are re-upholstered with new padding, has floor mats,

Body: hard to find all just great original metal body panels as received from the first family ownership, now this has a really nice re-paint in the original color (Midland Maroon Metallic), the luster and shine of this paint are just as nice as can be and still be driven, Hilton Head quality show condition and right below trailer concours class, this is all steel as it should be on the body, the metal is straight as an arrow, all exterior wood is about 90% original from history given and the final work that is refinished, sealed to protect, the rare Ford wood is still with this great all woody 1949 Ford Custom, also all bright work redone and the bumpers and front grill are so good they are like a time warp, new bolts for wood panels, new working tail light assembly,
